Library Statement About COVID-19

The Ohio County Public Library is pleased to announce that as of the first full week of April, 2021, patrons and guests to the Ohio County Public Library have been welcome to visit the library without making an appointment. Both the 16th Street and main entrance from the main parking lot of Library are currently open Monday through Thursday from 9 am – 6 pm; Friday from 10 am – 5 pm; and Saturday from 10 am – 3 pm. For continuing safety purposes, all visiting patrons must still practice social distancing while in the building.

For OCPL patrons who don’t wish to enter the Library for safety and health reasons, curbside service will continue during the new scheduled hours.

OCPL is closely monitoring information about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) both locally and nationwide. This is a constantly changing situation and the Library will continue to provide updates on how we are supporting the community and continuing to provide services for the duration of the pandemic. Please continue to check the Library's website for the latest updates on OCPL's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

VACCINATIONS: West Virginians may now pre-register for their COVID-19 vaccination at vaccinate.wv.gov. The COVID-19 dashboard located at www.coronavirus.wv.gov shows the total number of vaccines administered.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

It's important that everyone take action to slow the spread. This will help relieve pressure on medical resources and health care providers. For more information about what you can do to protect yourself or what to do if you think you are sick, please visit the CDC (Center for Disease Control) Coronavirus [COVID-19] website

We encourage the public to stay informed about COVID-19 by referring to credible sources of information, such as the National Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention's website. And remember that one of the best ways to prevent the spread of viral illness is to limit contact and practice good health hygiene as recommended by the CDC:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Recommended time for washing hands is 20 seconds. That's about the length of time it takes to sing "Happy Birthday" twice, hum “The Imperial March” from “Star Wars,” or recite the preamble to the U.S. Constitution.
  • Avoid touching your face, especially with unwashed hands.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs, light switches, tables, phones, and keyboards daily using a regular household detergent and water.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then immediately throw it away. If you don't have a tissue, cover your cough with your elbow rather than your hand.
  • When you're sick, avoid school, work, and public places. Stay home except to get medical care.
  • Avoid close contact with those who are ill.
