Youth Services Specialist

The Ohio County Public Library seeks a full-time Youth Services Specialist. The mission of the Ohio County Public Library is to provide free and equal access to resources that assist our community in the pursuit of knowledge, information, education, research, and recreation. POSITION: Full-time, 40 hours per week, to include some evenings and occasional Saturdays.

REPORTS TO: Youth Services Manager

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: College diploma or equivalent, preferably in child development, education, library science, or related field. Open, friendly personality with a genuine interest in public service. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Attentive to detail. Advanced computer skills. Able to travel between various locations to meet the assignments of the position. Flexible and open to change, with a healthy and appropriate sense of humor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: One-year documented experience in libraries or education.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Collection maintenance and organization, including shelving, shelf-reading, and routine weeding, as directed by the Youth Services Manager. Ensure Youth Services materials and facilities are kept organized and neat. Monitor and organize office and program supplies. Assist with Youth Services programming as needed and directed. Plan, prepare, and present story times, book clubs, and other Youth Services programs in conjunction with, or as assigned by, the Youth Services Manager. Research and prepare thematic craft and activities, displays, and materials. Support the Summer Reading Program as directed. Provide outreach to the community, schools, and daycares as assigned, including leading off-site library programs. Assist with circulation desk coverage, book processing, and other duties as assigned. Participate in ongoing professional development.

OTHER DUTIES: As assigned by the Library Director or Youth Services Manager.
