Campbell Guards
THE COLORED TROOPS. — The Company of militia recently organized by the citizens of Wheeling who are of African descent, has completed its organization, and is reported in a thriving condition. The name of "Campbell Guards" has been bestowed upon the organization, and the following prominent colored men appointed to the different official positions: Captain, Hamilton Davis; First Lieutenant, Wm. Jackson; Second Lieutenant, James H. Newby; Orderly Sergeant, Alex. Gardner. The Company holds weekly meetings in their armory, the hall over the Hose House on Eleventh street.
