Reichart Furniture Company
Founded March 15, 1920, by David J. Levenson, Reichart Furniture (replacing the New and Better Furniture Co.) did business at 1115 Main Street until 1992.
The business expanded to open stores in Washington, PA (1929); Moundsville (1956); Parkersburg (1964); Bellaire (1967); Martins Ferry (1973); and Steubenville (1975).
Chris Miller, founder of Chris Miller Furniture Company in 1979, began his career at Riechart in 1959.
In May 1992, Reichart was sold to Heilig-Meyers Furniture Co. of Richmond, Virginia.
The Levenson family ran the business until the death of Robert L. Levenson in 1990. His widow ran the company until the sale.
Reichart was well known for it's annual "Santa's Fiesta" sale and jingle.
Heilig-Meyers filed for bankruptcy in August 2000.
