Wheeling Pottery Co. in Wheeling
On the 23d day of October 1879, the Wheeling Pottery Company was incorporated under the laws of West Virginia, with an authorized capital of $1,000,000 and $125,000 paid up capital. At that time George K. Wheat was elected President, Charles W. Franzheim, Vice-President, W.A. Isett, Secretary, and E.M. Pearson, General Manager.
The first buildings erected were on the corner of Thirty-first and Chapline Streets, where they began operating eight kilns. The plant at Woods and Thirty-first Streets, where the office was also located, was erected in 1889. A higher grade of goods was manufactured at this plant, which was also an eight-kiln factory, and both are built of brick.
