About this collection:

➤Beverly Fluty (1931-2009) moved to Wheeling in 1968 and continued developing her preexisting interest in local history and architecture. She played a vital role in preserving the Wheeling Suspension Bridge and West Virginia Independence Hall, both sites of which she helped register as nationally significant on the National Register of Historic Places. During her period of activity in the preservation community, Fluty assisted in researching historic properties and Wheeling history extensively, giving presentations and planning events about local history topics. Fluty was one of the founders of the Friends of Wheeling (founded in 1970) and was a member of the Wheeling Historical Society. The collection consists of subject files, photographs, ephemera, clippings, and scanned materials related to Fluty's involvement with and research related to the historic preservation community in Wheeling. Research topics focus on the history of Wheeling, with a particular focus on buildings and structures. A substantial portion of the collection consists of materials concerning the Wheeling Suspension Bridge, from 1847-2001.
