C. Hal Brues

President of water board

-- from the Wheeling Intelligencer, May 12, 1909.

Hal Brues, one of the two Republican candidates for board of control, is a militant young Republican who has proved his fitness for public office. A native of the Island a member of a good old Wheeling family, his fair dealing and sincere personality have won him a host of friends. He was one of the most useful members of the council the Island ever had, and as a member of and president of the water board he has rendered the people service of the highest efficiency. The improvement in the water service in recent years was largely due to Mr. Brues' efforts. The supply has been abundant and dependable and extensive improvements have been made in the way of extending the mains, replacing smaller mains with larger ones and improveing the capacity of the pumping station out of the current revenues of the department without increasing rates or borrowing money. Under his management the service has been extended to several of the higher points in the city which never before had water. The quality of service Mr. Brues has rendered on the water board will be carried by him into the office of the board of control, a fact that the people will appreciate by a tremendous majority.
