J. McHenry Jones: Returns from London

A ROYAL WELCOME

Extended to Prof. J. McHenry Jones, Yesterday and Last Night.

Yesterday afternoon at a quarter past three o'clock Prof. J. McH. Jones who has been absent for some time past in England, as a delegate from the colored Odd Fellows of America to the grand encampment of the order at Bolton, England, arrived home, and he was given a royal welcome by his colored and white fellow citizens. The Opera House band was engaged, a platoon of police under command of Lieutenant Clemens provided, and the Patriarchs and Eureka Lodge, I. O. O. F., turned out, in all the splendor of regalia, and full dress suits. The column marched to the depot, and thence back to the I. O. O. F. hall, at Twelfth and Market streets. Mayor Butts occupied a seat in the carriage with Prof. Jones and other well known colored citizens. The parade was a most creditable one, and attracted much favorable comment as well as attention.

Last evening the welcome was renewed at Arion hall, with Scott Taylor as master of ceremonies, assisted by a committee consisting of Thomas Lewis, Frank Wright, H. B. Stillyard, H. F. Smith, J. Dickson, Robert Morris, Robert Irvington, and William Harris. There was a banquet, with an address by Prof. Jones and several responses, an interesting literary programme and the presentation to Prof. Jones of a handsome portrait of himself.
