OCPL Partners with Public Market to Distribute Free Poetry for National Poetry Month

Wheeling, WV -  In celebration of April being National Poetry Month, the Ohio County Public Library was proud to partner with Public Market in Wheeling, WV to distribute free poetry scrolls on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 12p-2p. Additionally, poetry scrolls were also available at the Ohio County Public Library circulation desk throughout April. In total well over 100 poems were distributed!  

The poetry scrolls were a concept called "Poem in your Pocket."  Each paper contains a poem or selection from poem that promotes the art of poetry. Poets included included Marc Harshman, Keith Maillard, as well as poems in the public domain from Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, Emily Dickinson, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Walt Whitman and many more.  

The ability to partner with Public Market allowed for the distribution of poetry to more community members in celebrating local, state, national and global poets, especially all their art adds to enrich our society.
