In advance of several upcoming graphic novel programs, local educator Darin McGinnis has recorded a graphic novel reading tutorial with the Ohio County Public Library. The tutorial gives readers, who may be new to the graphic novel format or may need more information, an introduction beginning with familiar comics and continuing to more advanced graphic novels and how they're related.
Darrin McGinnis is currently a Linsly School English teacher. He is also a professor of philosophy. McGinnis will join panelist of the upcoming Lunch with Books MAUS Discussion Panel.
The Ohio County Public Library has several upcoming Graphic Novel related programs. On Tuesday, September 20th at Noon, a Lunch with Books Discussion Panel will discuss the Pulitzer-Prize award winning graphic novel MAUS in celebration of Banned Books week. A new Graphic Novel Discussion group has been formed at the library for high school age teens and up, though younger ages are welcome with adult supervision. This group will meet again on Thursday, October 6th at 4:00pm to discuss MAUS. Additionally, the Ohio County Public Library Children's Department holds a monthly OCPL Kids! Graphic Novel Book Club. The Ohio County Public Library Children's Department is also currently hosting the Graphic Novel Awards. The bracket style competition is held weekly with votes cast by the public and club members. You can vote now in the OCPL Kids! Graphic Novel awards!
