Library Closed Until Further Notice

OCPL PRESS RELEASE - March 15, 2020:

Due to concerns over the potential spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Ohio County Public Library is closed until further notice, effective Sunday, March 15, 2020. The announcement comes after discussions between the OCPL Board of Trustees and OCPL Director, Dottie Thomas.

"Along with federal, state, and local agencies, the Ohio County Public Library has been closely monitoring the evolving situation involving COVID-19," said Director Dottie Thomas. "The safety and well-being of our staff and patrons are our primary concern, and we believe that closing the libraries at this time is the best way to meet that goal."

Though the Library will be closed to the public starting Monday, March 16, 2020, staff will report as usual Monday morning. Book returns will, for the time being, be accepted through the book drop, though late fees for overdue books will be waived for the duration of the closure. UPDATE - 3/16/20, 10:30 am: At this time, OPCL will not be accepting book returns. All late fees on Library materials will be waived for the duration of our closure and fines will not accrue on late materials. All events, classes, tests, and public meeting room reservations are canceled until further notice.

UPDATE - 3/16/20, 3:20 pm: The VITA tax preparation program at OCPL is suspended for the duration of the Library closure. If your taxes were completed before the library closed, your taxes have been filed. If your taxes were still in progress or left to be done, the VITA tax volunteers have picked up all the client paperwork that was at the library and one of the tax preparers will call you the week of March 15th and make arrangements with you to complete and file your taxes. If your taxes were in progress and no one has contacted you by Friday, March 20th, please call 740-633-2879. Leave a message at this number with your name and call back phone number if no one answers. The VITA tax preparation program will resume its regular hours once the library re-opens.

UPDATE - 3/21/20: On March 20, 2020, the IRS officially extended the federal income tax filing deadline from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020. The State of West Virginia has also extended the state income tax filing deadline from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020.

OCPL encourages patrons to frequently check for updates on this rapidly changing public health issue via their website at ohiocountylibrary.org, their smartphone app (OCPL Connect – available on iPhones and Android devices), and their Facebook page at facebook.com/ohiocountylibrary.

In the meantime, OCPL invites everyone to explore the vast array of resources they have to offer on their website, www.ohiocountylibrary.org.
