Pittsburgh-based author Jim O'Brien returns to Lunch with Books to talk about his two newest publications. From A To Z: A Boxing Memoir from Ali to Zivic give an up-close and behind-the-scenes study of the strange and wonderful world of boxing. O’Brien will tell the story of boxing in Western Pennsylvania, highlighting great boxers from Pittsburgh and great boxers who came to Pittsburgh. And then, we will hear about basketball greats, players Jim met and interviewed through the years. O'Brien has chronicled these interviews, including some with West Virginia's finest basketball players, in his newest book, Looking Up: From the ABA to the NBA, the WNBA to the NCAA.
Copies of O'Brien's books will be available to purchase following the program. Books are priced at $29.
Pittsburgh sports author Jim O’Brien has written over 25 books in his “Pittsburgh Proud” series. He is on the advisory board for the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh and has been inducted into the Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He was given the Bob Prince Award for his journalism efforts and the David L. Lawrence Award for “promoting Pittsburgh in a positive manner on a national level” from Vectors and was cited as a “Legend” by the Pittsburgh chapter of the Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame. O'Brien has a degree in English from Pitt.
