Author M. Glenn Taylor

Author M. Glenn Taylor’s novel is a sweeping story set against the changing landscape of post-World War II America that recalls the early lyrical work of Cormac McCarthy. A masterwork of Southern fiction that author of Spartina, John Casey, calls, “a terrific rough-and-tumble novel,” The Marrowbone Marble Company is a gift from a truly exhilarating American voice. It starts in 1941. Loyal Ledford works the swing shift at the Mann Glass factory in Huntington, WV. He courts Rachel, the boss’s daughter, a company nurse with coal black hair. But when Pearl Harbor is attacked, Ledford, like so many young men of his time, sets his life on a new course. Glenn Taylor’s fourth novel, The Songs of Betty Baach won the 2023 Juniper Prize in Fiction. His first novel, The Ballad of Trenchmouth Taggart was a finalist for the 2008 National Book Critics Circle Award. Glenn’s work has appeared in such venues as the Oxford American, The Guardian, Gulf Coast, and Huizache. Born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia, he now resides with his family in Morgantown, where he is at work on a new novel.
