➤Raymond J. Falland was born to Frank and Ursula Falland who came to America from Germany in 1878. He was born in Forest City, Pennsylvania, August 19, 1892. When he was a boy, the family moved to the Ohio Valley. He served in the 314th Field Artillery in World War I and was severely wounded in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive ten days before the Armistice was signed. As a Democrat, Falland was elected Clerk of Ohio County in 1928 and served in that office for almost 42 years, the longest tenure in Ohio County history. He married Bertha Morgan on August 15, 1935. He was affiliated with many lodges and organizations in Wheeling. He died September 8, 1968 and was buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.The collection contains selected items related to Raymond J. Falland from 1919-1968, specifically his military service in World War I and his long time career as the Ohio County Clerk. Of particular note is a scrapbook that contains newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, campaign material and other ephemera. The collection also includes campaign posters, photographs of Falland and his wife, Bertha, his WWI Medal of Honor and a guestbook of attendees to Falland's funeral.
