TITLE

About this collection:

➤The State Historic Preservation Office had a northern regional representative located in Wheeling for much of the late 1980s and 1990s.  Headquartered at the West Virginia Independence Hall, the state representative researched and led efforts to identify and list places of historical note to the National Register of Historic Places in an effort to promote the rehabilitation of buildings and revitalization of Wheeling as part of the Wheeling Heritage Project, laying the groundwork for the designation of the city as a National Heritage Area.

There are three banker boxes filled with the working files of the WV State Historic Preservation northern region’s office representatives during the Wheeling Heritage project of the late 1980s and early 1990s.  Files include research on many of the buildings and districts that were nominated to the national register during the 1990s.  Some files contain national register nominations that were never listed, Save Outdoor Sculpture applications (SOS), newspaper articles, brochures, and area pamphlets.  Also survey data, photo logs, field notes, and forms for Wetzel, Marshall, Brooke, and Hancock counties.
