Collegiate Alumnae of Wheeling Collection
About this collection:
➤ The Collegiate Alumnae of Wheeling is an independent civic group of women who encourages and assists young women in their efforts to attend college in West Virginia. The group was founded in 1908 when some college-educated women began granting loans to young women attending college. They have continued to grant loans for over 100 years. They believe that while the role of women in society has changed since 1908, attending college is still a hardship for many young women and they seek to make that burden a little easier to manage.
In the fall of each year, the Collegiate Alumnae of Wheeling holds a reception for new citizens after their induction ceremony at the Federal Courthouse in Wheeling.
