James Trautwein collection on the wreck of the Shenandoah and other airships, 1925-1987
About this collection:
➤ James L. Trautwein was born in Wheeling, WV on November 18, 1927 to Charles and Stella Muskovich Trautwein. Trautwein worked as a machinist at the Blaw-Knox Foundry and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. In 1958, he married Wanda L. (Myers) Cornelia. Trautwein died on May 1, 2002 and is buried in Holly Memorial Park in Colerain, Ohio.
This collection consists of historical photographs of the airship Shenandoah crash in 1925 and photographs taken of the crash site in 1987. The collection also contains books about Shenandoah and other airships, photographs of and related material about other airship crashes. Also included are photographs of a Ford Tri-motor ("The Tin Goose") at the Ohio County Airport in 1987, in addition to color negatives of several local Wheeling landmarks (Elm Grove Stone Bridge, Pythian Castle, Market Street, Bellaire Toll Bridge, B & O Stone Viaduct, Fort Henry Bridge, Paxton - Reed House, The Blue Church, Stone & Thomas and Federal One Bank).
