JOSEPH HOFFMAN COLLECTION
About this collection:
➤ Joseph Edward Hoffmann was born in Wheeling, WV on August 2, 1918. He worked for the Wheeling News-Register beginning in 1937. He left in 1940 to work with Oglebay Institute, Bethany College and various other institutions in West Virginia. In 1952 he began working for the Monongahela Power Company in Fairmont. In 1973, he returned to Wheeling and again wrote for the Wheeling News Register. The collection primarily documents Wheeling history, but also touches on Bethany College and streetcars. It includes a collection of Hoffman’s "This was the News That Was" column that he compiled for the Wheeling News Register from 1975-1976. The highlight of the collection is a series of photographs documenting historic Wheeling dating back to the late 1800s.
