Long Family World War II Scrapbook
About this collection:
➤ Jacob K. Long (1895-1959) married Mary Palmer (1899-????) in 1916. The Longs lived in Warwood, a neighborhood north of Wheeling, WV. Long was a plasterer and a member of the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association, Local No. 39. The Longs had two daughters, Katharine Virginia (1918-1995) and Ruth (1930). Katherine married William John Johnson, who served in World War II.
The collection consists of a scrapbook, drawings, photographs, and other ephemera. The scrapbook appears to be compiled by Katherine (Long) Johnson and consists of newspaper clippings relating to the service of Ohio Valley citizens in World War II. Many of the clippings are accompanied by handwritten names, most likely noting spouses’ names. Also included in the collection are 2 photographs of the Plasterers Local No. 39 union, one dated 1928. Also included is a monthly newsletter of the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association, dated November 1959, featuring Jacob Long in the “In Memoriam” section.
