➤Dr. R. Alan Fawcett was born in Wheeling Nov. 7, 1919. Dr. Fawcett was a graduate of Linsly Institute in 1937 and received his B.S. degree from Washington and Jefferson College in 1940. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1943. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corp, and from 1945-1947, served as the Chief of Ophthalmology at the 98th General Hospital in Munich, Germany. He returned to Wheeling in 1947 in the private practice of Ophthalmology for 44 years until his retirement in 1991. The collection consists of 4 albums, including photographs and ephemera documenting this time in Post-WWII Occupied Germany. Dr. Fawcett died in Wheeling, WV on September 7, 2017.
