▼ Ohio River Flood Statistic Index

Flood stage at Pittsburgh is 25 feet, at Wheeling, 36 feet.

Five recorded floods crested at over 50 feet at Wheeling:

  • 1884 (53.4 ft.); 1907(50.1 ft.); 1913 (51.1); 1936 (55.2 ft.); 1942 (51.5 ft.)

Floods in 1762 and 1763 probably did also, as the crest at Pittsburgh in those years exceeded all but the 1936 flood.

Another feature of river life in the past was low water. The lowest recorded level of the Ohio River at Wheeling was of 2 in. below 0 (0 being the lowest navigable level) in 1908.

Some early Pittsburgh data for years for which we do not have flood information for Wheeling has been added.
